Doctors and other health care professionals generally poorly understand alcoholism, and this film aims to correct that deficiency. It opens with a moving and informative discussion between four members of the Alcohol Recovery Group at King's College Hospital, London, who are at different stages of recovery. There follows a discussion with Mick McDaid of the 12 steps to recovery practiced by Alcoholics Anonymous. Finally there are two discussions with experts on alcoholism and its management - Dr Jane Marshall on psychological and psychiatric aspects, and Prof Timothy Peters on the chemical basis of alcohol dependence and tissue injury. 2004
