Healthcare Scenarios in Developmental Disability has been designed to support the development of positive attitudes towards people with disabilities, and to provide important information in skill and knowledge domains.
This resource has two major sections: The Video Scenarios and the Knowledge Base.
The Video Scenarios comprise videotaped ‘medical consultations’ between medical practitioners and four people with disabilities. These four scenarios introduce students to the issues faced by people living with intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and dual disability and allow students to observe how challenges are handled in real interactions. Each video consultation is embedded in a learning pathway that includes learning objectives, a reflective exercise and a self assessment quiz.
Underpinning the four video scenarios are five extensive Knowledge Bases: Overview of Developmental Disability; General Issues in Healthcare; Communication; Mental Health and Illness; and Issues for Families and Carers.
