The important aspects of examining the throat and neck are first shown in two men, one with loss of voice, and the second with a painless lump in the neck. The systematic examination of the oral cavity and of lymph nodes and other lumps in the neck is expertly demonstrated, with emphasis on the underlying anatomy. The importance of early diagnosis of laryngeal carcinoma and of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is emphasised. Finally, on a normal subject Michael Rothera shows how to examine the ear and nose, including proper use of the auriscope and Thudicum's nasal speculum. 2006
