These dreadful diseases, easily prevented by active immunisation programmes, are still rife in many less fortunate parts of the world. On this film, we explore these two diseases with the help of specialists in Ho Chin Minh City, Vietnam and San Lazaro Hospital, Manila, the Philippines. A total of 10 cases of tetanus, and five of diphtheria well illustrate the horror of these preventable diseases. Discussions also consider the pathophysiology of these classical diseases and immunisation programmes. 2004
