OVERALL OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this CME activity, through the use of clinical vignettes emphasizing Guidelines and Evidence-Based Medicine, the physician or healthcare provider should be able to formulate a differential, make a diagnosis and develop a plan for the prevention and/or therapeutic management of the various disorders presented.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES FOR EACH TOPIC
TOPIC 1: Fever and Rash: A Common Sense Approach - Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
1. Identify life-threatening skin conditions present with a fever.
2. Generate a differential diagnosis for a fever and rash.
3. Identify a classification scheme for skin diseases associated with fever.
TOPIC 2: Malignant Melanomas: Melanoma and Birthmarks - Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
1. Utilize the ABCDE approach to the description of pigmented lesions and features of melanoma.
2. Describe the biology of melanoma.
3. Understand the surgical approach to melanoma.
TOPIC 3: Tick-Borne Infections in the Pediatric Patient: Hot Spots and Bullseyes - Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
1. Appreciate the epidemiology of tick-borne infections.
2. Recognize the clinical/laboratory manifestations.
3. Appropriately prescribe therapy, incorporating recent IDSA guidelines.
TOPIC 4: Case Studies in Clinical Dermatology - Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
1. Create a differential diagnosis based on clinical presentation and patient history.
2. Appreciate the importance of morphology and pattern recognition in cutaneous disorders.
TOPIC 5: Visual Diagnosis in the Pediatric Patient - Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
1. Recognize common, uncommon and atypical presentations of childhood illnesses.
2. Formulate an initial approach to the management of certain childhood illnesses or injuries based on visual clues.
3. Ask appropriate questions to discriminate among similar appearing pediatric diagnoses.
TOPIC 6: Approach to Rosacea and the Red Face - Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
1. Identify Rosacea.
2. Develop a treatment plan for Rosacea.
3. Distinguish Rosacea from other causes of the “Red Face.”
TOPIC 7: Leg Ulcers and the Principles of Wound Care - Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
1. Differentiate and treat leg ulcers based on etiology.
2. Apply the basic principles of wound care.
3. Explain the rationale for various wound dressings.
