Two doctors explore the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, through the eyes of three of their patients in Hong Kong. A Caucasian American businessman presented with pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, and also has cytomegalovirus and oral candidiasis, and incipient cerebral atrophy. A Chinese man presented with Penicillium marneffei pneumonia, and has major anxieties about his family discovering that he has AIDS and is homosexual. J J Chan, a Hong Kong disc jockey who presented with pneumocystis, has eosinophilic folliculitis and now advanced Kaposi's sarcoma. He went public to help increase awareness of AIDS and its prevention in Hong Kong. Together these men illustrate many of the physical and psychological problems of this disease in people with access to advanced medical services. The film also illustrates on a slide presentation many of the cutaneous and other manifestations of AIDS, and the DVD concludes with a new discussion of the general principles of its management and prevention, and how the field has changed in the nine years since the patients were filmed. 2005
