Palmar Aponeurosis

Palmar aponeurosis & Fascia Removed - Palmis longus tendon and palmaris brevis are excised together with palmar brevis covering the thenar and hypothenar eminences. The volar carpal ligament, which forms the roof of the ulnar canal (over the flexor retinaculum) is also excised. The ulnar artery and nerve are seen passing into the ulnar canal, where they divide into their superficial and deep terminal branches. Two vertical septa (one on each side of the palmar aponeurosis) divide the palm into three compartments (for the thenar muscles laterally, hypothenar muscles medially, anda long tendons centrally, beneath the palmar aponeurosis). The base of the palmar aponeurosis is bound to the fibrous flexor sheaths of the fingers by (four) longitudinal bundles.
