Comprehensive
Review and Assessment for
Emergency Medicine Residents
It's not magic. It's just applied science - and a lot of legwork on our part.
We have cultivated and customized, with the participation of over 200
contributing physicians, an up-to-date standard-of-care reference for Emergency
Medicine. With every topic neatly arranged, 4,000 fully referenced
boards-appropriate test questions, and 1,400 images covering all the essential
aspects of Emergency Medicine, Med-Challenger EM is the best and most
comprehensive resource of its type.
Each special area of learning and competency - from ECG interpretation and acute
care radiology to trauma and critical care (and 23 other essential topical
areas) - is continually peer-reviewed and adjusted with one goal in mind:
protecting you from a lack of adequate preparation for assessments of your
knowledge. This course prepares you completely. You must pass - or we fail!
In fact, our review method is so effective that we confidently offer a
Boards-Pass Guarantee for your initial written boards exam! That's comprehensive
content and study with NO RISK!
The Largest Electronic Image Bank for Emergency Medicine
Full-colour, high-resolution imagery has always been one of the hallmarks of
Challenger programs. Every image is assigned to the appropriate standard-of-care
topic, and most can be enlarged for detailed examination and observation. Where
specific features of an image are salient for instruction, overlays point to
items being illustrated.
Target Audience
Med-Challenger is intended for practitioners of Primary Care or Emergency
Medicine or clinicians otherwise involved in the diagnosis and treatment of
acute or emergent medical problems.
Educational Objectives
The objective of the Med-Challenger continuing medical education program is
to provide an interactive review of the knowledge base of acute care and
emergency medicine. After completing this course, the participating clinician
will be better equipped to:
- Confidently manage the broad spectrum of acute and emergent medical
problems encountered in the practice of primary care and emergency medicine.
- Formulate appropriate differential diagnoses for patients presenting with
acute medical problems of uncertain etiology.
- Efficiently initiate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures for patients
presenting with acute medical disorders.
- Cope effectively with the uncertainty that is inherent in the initial
treatment of acute and emergent disorders, effectively stabilizing critical
patients while refining the differential diagnosis.
- Handle efficiently the spectrum of common disorders involving all organ
systems. In particular, the physician will be better equipped to resuscitate
seriously ill patients and to diagnose and treat acute: cardiovascular
disorders; diseases of the eye, ear, nose, throat, skin and soft tissues;
endocrinologic disorders; traumatic and environmental injuries;
gastrointestinal diseases; gynecologic and obstetric disorders; hematologic
and oncologic problems; immunologic, allergic and rheumatologic diseases;
infectious diseases; life-threatening signs and symptoms; musculoskeletal
disorders; pulmonary diseases; and intoxications and poisonings.

Improve Your Response to
Anaesthetic Emergencies
The Anaesthesia Simulator
is a real-time graphical simulator that reproduces the anaesthesia environment
on a computer screen. It is the only computer program that can help you prepare
for emergency situations in anaesthesia.
The Anaesthesia Simulator
includes dozens of scenarios such as myocardial ischemia, anaphylaxis and
malignant hyperthermia. Mathematical models of physiology and pharmacology
predict the simulated patient's response to your management while an automated
record-keeping system summarizes the case and an on-line consultant provides
immediate management suggestions.
The Anaesthesia Simulator
has 72 cases with general anaesthetic problems, and cardiac, neuro, trauma,
obstetric and paediatric cases and dozens of aesthetic emergencies.
Dozens of anaesthetic emergencies:
- Air embolism
- Anaphylaxis
- Bronchospasm
- Carcinoid
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Difficult airway
- Intracranial hypertension
- Latex allergy
- Pheochromocytoma
- Preeclampsia
- Venous air embolism

Improve
your Response to Medical Emergencies
The Critical Care Simulator
2002 is an exciting real-time graphical
simulator that reproduces patient care in an
Intensive Care Unit or Emergency Room. Twenty
different critically ill patients are presented
and you must manage the airway, ventilation,
fluids and medications to improve the simulated
patient's condition. Optimise the patient's
hemodynamic state with invasive monitoring and
vasoactive infusions. Many emergency situations
will occur requiring rapid diagnosis and proper
treatment to avoid disaster. An on-line expert
help system is available and an automated
record-keeping system provides a detailed chart
for the case.
Have fun while you review
hemodynamics and vasoactive infusions, and
practice managing simulated medical emergencies!

Sharpening skills
at Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) was never
so easy - and certainly never so much fun! There
are two Cardiac Arrest! multimedia CDs:
Managing the Complex Resuscitation (30 patients)
and The Paediatric Resuscitation (15 patients).
This is
state-of-the-art computer learning. Not
"Choose A,B,C" nor "Guess what I'm
thinking" but a real simulation that's
stimulating and fun.
Patients cover a wide variety of
medical problems associated with cardiovascular
collapse. (And each patient behaves differently
each time resuscitation is attempted.) Many
patients pose difficult therapeutic priorities,
presenting problems beyond heart attacks, such as
hypocalcemia, hypothermia, and hyperkalemia.
Cardiac Arrest! casts you
in the role of emergency physician. The patient's
history is presented, and the resuscitation
efforts begin. You read the ECG on the computer
screen, interpret the vital signs and laboratory
data, and give treatment orders. ACLS becomes a
challenging computer adventure game; but with real
sights and real sounds! No "choose A, B,
C" type learning here. Over 800 megabytes of
adrenaline-pumping reality. Live-action video in a
real ER. You've never seen ACLS software like this
before. It makes everything else (even the old
Cardiac Arrest!) look positively lame.
You watch live-action video of CPR. You see your orders carried
out. As you resuscitate the patient, you type treatment orders in plain English,
ordering virtually anything you want any way you want. Or if you hate typing,
you can use the quick-access buttons for common interventions, or click on a
drug or action in the information listings (see Drug Info... and Rx Options
upper right corner of the display)
When you believe the
patient is stabilized enough for ICU admission,
click the "Admit" button....
| Systems Requirements:
Pentium
133Mhz or faster processor, 16 MB RAM, 10 MB hard
drive space*, CD-ROM drive, 16-bit colour sVGA
video, mouse, keyboard. *
To run Cardiac Arrest! from the computer’s hard
drive requires 800 MB of hard drive space. Windows®
operating system. Compatible with Windows 95, 98,
NT, Me, 2000 and XP®.
