« BACK  to "Cardiac Arrest!"

Cardiac Arrest! teaches you appropriate doses based on weight and patient status. There's an on-line textbook discussing common clinical problems that lead to cardiovascular collapse. You're expected to read the sections that are pertinent to your patient's problems, in order to answer the quiz questions that follow each case.

The nurse will question "odd" doses of drugs, and (being ACLS certified) may question you if you're deviating badly from what she expects.

And the "Mad Scientist" may pop up to offer guidance when you're not getting the patient's problem's fixed.

Learn to follow the arrhythmia treatment algorithms by popping up an appropriate treatment flowchart.

For each patient, there's a brief discussion of the patient's underlying problems, and of the usual therapeutic approach. The simulation will wait while you read about the management of those problems in the on-line textbook. Just click the "Teach" button.

Cardiac Arrest! will even teach you how to use the program. Just click the "Intro" button for a quick video tour, then work through every item on the screen display by clicking the "Tour" button. For example, in the picture below, the Tour is showing you how to check the patient's underlying parameters (such as body temperature, blood volume, bretylium serum level, etc.) if you're having trouble understanding why the patient isn't responding to your resuscitation efforts

You can make Cardiac Arrest! meet YOUR OWN learning needs. For example, if you're trying to learn drug treatment strategies, you can have your treatment team automatically perform CPR and ventilations when needed, so you can concentrate on the treatment algorithms.

You can test your mettle by setting a high distraction level (you'll learn to love Eunice, your ER clerk who pops into the resuscitation room with urgent issues while you're trying to think).
